I was taking a shower, thinking about random shit, when an idea popped into my head.

"How could someone make NASCAR actually do something for humanity?"

The goal of this race would be to create the fastest, most efficient vehicle possible.

RULES:
1. Each team is given the same amount of fuel.
2. Structurally, the racing vehicles are standardized and nearly identical.
3. Only the engine/transmission/brakes/tires may be modified, but they may be modified to any extent.

SCORING:
Remaining Fuel (L) / Physical Placement (1st, 2nd, 3rd, ect.) = Score
Score high to win.

ALTERNATIVE METHOD:
Remaining Fuel (mL) / Time (m) = Score
Score high to win.

Prizes for winning can be research grants or something.

Feel free to collaborate and improve upon this idea in the comment section.
